Jinjiang Shipping doubles Yangzijiang boxship order

Jin Jiang Shipping Shanghai-listed Jinjiang Shipping has firmed up options for four more 1,900 teu containerships at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, doubling its latest feeder newbuilding programme. The Shanghai International Port Group-controlled carrier said its wholly owned subsidiary Manqiang Shipping has signed contracts with Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding and Jiangsu Yangzi Hongyuan Shipbuilding for the additional quartet. The contracts are worth a combined RMB820m ($120.8m), equal to about RMB205m per ship and deliveries scheduled from May 2029 onwards. The latest deal follows Jinjiang’s earlier order for four firm 1,800 teu vessels at the same yard group. Those ships were contracted at the same total price and are due to start delivering in 2028. The order forms part of Jinjiang’s previously announced 4+4 newbuilding plan, worth up to RMB1.94bn, aimed at adding bangkokmax tonnage for regional trades. Splash reported in March that the first batch marked a further step in the company’s fleet renewal and Southeast Asia expansion plan. Alphaliner data lists Jinjiang Shipping as the world’s 32nd-largest liner operator, with 54 ships and total capacity of around 63,400 teu. Around half of the fleet is owned.
