Oregon Coos Bay port project advances with INFRA grant
The Oregon International Port of Coos Bay has formally executed its $25 million Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant agreement with the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) to support the development of its Pacific Coast Intermodal Port (PCIP). Funding disbursements will begin now that legal requirements of the grant agreement have been met.
NorthPoint Development, the project’s private-sector partner, will provide a $25 million match to the federal award. The combined $50 million will fund planning and pre-construction activities, including design of the terminal, rail yard, wharf and berth, advance environmental review, permitting, and preliminary engineering activities. The PCIP, a proposed ship-to-rail container terminal on the North Spit of Coos Bay, will add capacity at the port and connect directly to inland markets. In addition to the INFRA grant, the project has received a $29.75 million CRISI grant, an $11.25 million Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP) award, and a $100 million investment from the Oregon legislature. The port-owned Coos Bay Rail Line interchanges with Union Pacific Railroad.
