Short Line Training Center adds 2 online programs
The Short Line Training Center (SLTC) has added two new training programs to its online learning management system (LMS) platform, the Designated Supervisor of Locomotive Engineers (DSLE) training and General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR). Both were initially launched as in-person seminars.
The training center, launched in 2021, is a collaborative project created by the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) and Iowa Northern Railway Company, with funding support provided by the Federal Railroad Administration. “Most small railroads do not have the resources, capacity or in-house expertise to develop the breadth and depth of training offered by the Training Center,” said Sabrina Waiss, ASLRRA's senior vice president of education and business services, in a press release. “Moreover, many are challenged to spare the time and expense for critical employees to attend in-person training that may take them away from the railroad for several days at a time." The LMS now includes 16 online courses, with over 1,200 railroad employees enrolled on the platform, SLTC officials said. The LMS assists railroads in streamlining the tracking and recording of training. Participating railroads enroll users, assign courses, track progress and manage team reports through an admin dashboard.
