CSX opens hazmat training institute in Florida
CSX on June 30 opened its new Hazardous Materials Training Institute at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ). The facility, developed in partnership with and located at the college’s Fire Academy of the South, will provide hands-on, rail-focused training for first responders, railroad personnel and public safety partners.
The site includes 1,200 feet of track, freight and tank cars, specialized training props and scenario-based learning environments that replicate real-world rail conditions, CSX officials said in a press release. Courses offered will include a combination of classroom instruction and live exercises. “We’re proud that this institute supports a full range of training, from foundational awareness to emerging tools like drone-assisted incident management,” said CSX President and CEO Steve Angel. “Safety doesn’t begin when something happens. It begins long before that — through preparation, disciplined execution and the relationships we build with partners like FSCJ and first responders.” CSX also created a short video about the institute.
