Rail supplier news from Vossloh, Stadler and FreightCar America

Vossloh has won two major contracts to supply fastening systems for new rail lines in Shandong Province in eastern China for a total order value of around 60 million euros. Production will take place in Vossloh’s plant in Kunshan, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027, Vossloh officials said in a press release. The 167-mile Jinan-ZaoZhuang line will connect the provincial capital of Jinan with economic regions in southern Shandong. The 68-mile Qingdao-Zhucheng line will connect the deep-water port of Qingdao with industrial hubs in Jinan and tourism centers in the south. Both lines are designed for high-speed trains traveling up to 217 mph. Vossloh’s Kunshan plant was founded in 2006 and started operations in 2007. Stadler on July 1 officially opened its expanded plant in Salt Lake City. The 245,000-square-foot expansion increases the total footprint to 475,000 square feet of manufacturing area and is expected to create up to 300 new local jobs, Stadler officials said in a press release. The larger campus includes a new welding hall, blasting booth, assembly hall, warehouse expansion and electrical pre-assembly hall. The official opening ceremony also marked the company’s 10th anniversary in the United States. Stadler's Salt Lake City facility serves major rail agencies across the country, including Caltrain, Metra, TexRail and MARTA. At the event, representatives of Stadler and the state of Utah also ceremonially broke ground for a new CNC manufacturing hall. FreightCar America Inc. yesterday announced it has received a new multi-year order for 1,900 rail cars from a key customer, with deliveries scheduled through 2028. Concurrently, the company shared second-quarter 2026 total orders of about 3,000 rail cars, valued at about $300 million. Orders were received across every core market segment and included both multiple first-time customer orders and meaningful repeat customer activity, FreightCar America officials said in a press release.
