Pilots need more than basic weather information. Flying depends on wind at altitude, cloud base, visibility, pressure, and the vertical structure of the atmosphere. Ventusky’s latest mobile app update introduces a dedicated Aviation forecast view, part of a broader release with specialized views for mountains, sea, health, professional analysis, and aviation. The Aviation view is designed for pilots, drone operators, flight students, and aviation enthusiasts. It presents key meteorological data in a clear timeline, showing how conditions evolve hour by hour. Users can track flight-relevant parameters in one place, including temperature and wind at multiple flight levels, visibility, cloud base, pressure, and cloud layers. Additional metrics such as CAPE can be added through customization. A key feature is the vertical profile. Ventusky displays wind and temperature from near-surface levels up to FL400, including 0.5 km, 1 km, 1.5 km, 2 km, FL100, FL140, FL180, FL230, FL300, and FL400. Wind barbs provide a quick overview of direction and strength across altitudes. This helps pilots compare surface and upper-level winds, assess climb conditions, and understand atmospheric changes. It is also useful for glider pilots, paragliders, and drone operators. Cloud data is divided into low, medium, and high layers, with cloud base clearly shown—essential for VFR flying and training. Visibility and pressure are included in the same table, creating a compact overview of daily conditions. The forecast system is fully customizable. Users can add or remove parameters and adjust their order. For example, VFR pilots may focus on visibility and cloud base, while glider pilots can include wind profiles and CAPE. More than 40 weather layers are available, with forecasts up to 14 days ahead. Beyond the timeline, Ventusky combines interactive maps, radar, satellite imagery, lightning detection, warnings, and multiple weather models. Map layers include wind, gusts, cloud cover, cloud base, visibility, precipitation, pressure, CAPE, freezing level, and upper-air flow. Radar and satellite data provide near real-time precipitation updates in 5-minute intervals, supported by lightning detection for identifying active storms. CAPE and hail probability layers help assess convective risk, while official warnings highlight hazardous conditions. The app integrates global and regional models such as ECMWF, ICON, GFS, GEM, HRRR, NAM, and HARMONIE, allowing users to compare forecasts. High-resolution ECMWF data with hourly steps further improves accuracy. Ventusky is not a replacement for official aviation briefings, TAF, or NOTAMs. Instead, it offers a clear visual overview to better understand weather patterns before consulting official sources. With the new Aviation forecast view, Ventusky brings together key flight-related data—cloud base, visibility, wind at altitude, temperature at flight levels, pressure, cloud layers, radar, satellite, lightning, warnings, and model data—in one accessible tool. The Aviation forecast view is now available in the Ventusky mobile app for iOS and Android.
